A vision board is a visualization tool that helps focus your mind towards reaching your goals. You might say it funnels your efforts towards achieving your goals because you are intensely focused on the positive. You know what you want and you attract it to yourself. If that sounds a bit too mystical, let me put it in simple terms. A vision board helps filter out negative thoughts and helps your mind hone in on positive thoughts. Remember it this way... "In with positive thoughts-out with the negative. The more you focus on your goals and really see them in your mind's eye, the better chance you have at achieving what you were only able to dream about in the past.
"How will this help with weight loss?"
Weight loss is deemed to be a difficult task because the results are not attainable over night. The more weight a person has to lose, the longer it takes for them to reach their goal. Therein lies the problem-time! We live in an "I want it now" type of world, and with weight loss, we can't get what we want immediately; rather, it's a process that takes time. Many people start off very motivated and lose steam as time passes. Why? They can't maintain focus on what they want and life's temptations seem to get in the way.
"I still don't get it! I really do want to lose weight but I always fail no matter how hard I try."
It isn't a matter of trying; it's a matter of doing. A vision board is a collection of pictures, affirmations, and quotes that are all carefully chosen to represent a particular goal. In the case of weight loss, the pictures might include:
-A picture of the beach and someone wearing a bathing suit
-The quote, "Just Do It."
-A picture of healthy food to represent how you should eat
-A picture of a sneaker to represent exercise
-A picture of a pair of jeans in the "perfect size"
-A picture of someone that has achieved weight loss
-Your favorite quote or affirmation
A vision board is highly personal, and no two vision boards will ever look the same. The vision board you make for yourself can be created on the computer or done on a piece of poster board. The how it is created part doesn't matter. What matters is the how you use it part. Once you have created your weight loss vision board, put it in a place where you can see it every day, and make sure that you look at it every day. Some people look at their boards the moment that they wake up in the morning. Don't just glance at it-study it! Think about why each picture and quote represents what you are trying to achieve.
If you do this regularly, you will begin to see results. Your weight loss vision board will pop into your mind, when you least expect it to. When you're tempted by a certain food, or unsure that you can reach your weight loss goals, the image of your vision board will pop into your head, to help push you past any doubts you might have. Do you remember when you had to learn your multiplication tables? I do! It took a lot of time but after many, many sessions with flashcards-I knew them! Your vision board is like that, too, something automatic that your mind can go to with ease.
You CAN reach your weight loss goals and a weight loss vision board is a tool that will help get you there!
